VideoMan 3.0
Hardware Compatibility Notes
Hardware compatibility

1. DV cameras

To communicate with DV camera (import, playback, output) from VideoMan Capturer you need DV camera connected to the IEEE 1394 (also known as FireWire) controller installed in your PC. VideoMan Capturer will exchange data and commands with these devices using drivers available in your system. We recommend that you use drivers offered by standard Windows Add New Hardware wizard when you install IEEE 1394 controller. Standard Windows drivers for IEEE 1394 controller and DV camera (Imaging device)are:

- 1394 Bus Controller\Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
- Microsoft DV camera and VCR

Compatibility problems may occur if you choose to install drivers different than standard Windows drivers, for examples drivers provided by software bundled with IEEE1394 controller.

Known problems and troubleshooting:

Studio DV (Pinacle system)
drivers:
Microsoft DV camera and VCR
1394 Bus Controller\Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

problem: - Driver reports wrong numbers of captured and dropped frames due to incorrect data transmission from Idropped Frames interface
- High number of dropped frames during writing of video to the disk
- Application runs slowly
- Preview is not available immediately after Capture-Movie command
troubleshooting: - Install DirectX8 and DV Update (dx80bd.exe), this will correct behavior of IdroppedFrames and will enable Preview on Capture-Movie command (even before Capture-Start command)
problem: - Driver is not transmitting video to camera
troubleshooting: - Check Off and then again On DMA option in disk properties (Win 95/98/Me)
remark: - After installation of DirectX8 and DV Update driver (QDV.DLL) causes memory access error when video preview window is hidden if preview window size is smaller than image size of DV decoder.

Pinnacle DV500
drivers:
Microsoft DV camera and VCR
1394 Bus Controller\Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Note that in our tests this controller worked ONLY with these standard Windows drivers. Tests were done under Win2000 SP2, DirectX8 + VideoCapture Update

problem - On slow machines DV type 2 files are transferred to camera with high number of lost frames
Troubleshooting - Avoid using DV type 2, close Preview or free computer resources

2. Video capture boards

VideoMan Capturer is designed to work flawlessly with all video capture/encoding hardware which are fully compliant with WDM or VideoForWindows standards. Testing results and troubleshooting recommendations for particluar devices are provided below.

MiroVideo Studio DC10Plus
DirectX version: DirectX8 + VideoCapture Update
friendly name: Studio DC10plus, Motion JPEG Capture/CODEC board
drivers: Sound, video and game controllers\Studio DC10plus, Motion JPEG Capture/CODEC board

problem: - No connection to the board, VideoMan Capturer hangs on
troubleshooting: - try to make board work, most probalby it is an IRQ conflict. Change it by all means, this may require changes in bios, or changing board slot. Make sure board passes its own tests such as VSYNC
problem: - preview is unavailable during capture
troubleshooting: - contact board manufacturer
problem: - cannot output video through the board with DirectX8
troubleshooting: - DirectX8 installs software MJPEG coder and video output goes through this software coder instead of hardware MJPEG coder provided by the board. We dont know how to overpass this problem.

MiroVideo Studio DC30Plus
DirectX version: DirectX8 + VideoCapture Update
friendly name: miroVIDEO DC30 series, Motion JPEG Capture/CODEC Board
driver: Sound, video and game controllers\miroVIDEO DC30 series, Motion JPEG Capture/CODEC Board

problem: - preview is unavailable during capture
troubleshooting: - contact board manufacturer
problem: - Audio Preview is not working if miroVIDEO DC30 series is choosen as audio device
troubleshooting: - Set miroVIDEO DC30 series as preferred device for audio recording in Control Panel - Sounds and Multimedia
problem: - no audio capture
troubleshooting: - in Options-Configure-Audio Capture Driver check Enable option for External In

ASUS GeForce2 AGP-V7700 Deluxe
DirectX version: DirectX8 + VideoCapture Update
riendly name: ASUS Video Capture Driver
driver: ASUS AGP-V7700 Pure/Deluxe v6.31c

problem: - no problems detected

Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP
DirectX version: DirectX8 + VideoCapture Update
friendly name: VPX Video Capture Driver
drivers: Sound, video and game controllers\3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV

problem: - Size of captured frames is different from defined in driver settings.
troubleshooting: - Check OFF Options-Preferences-Don’t wait for Start button option and set frame size each time before Capture-Start command.
problem: - Too many lost frames in captured video
troubleshooting: - Decrease framerate and frame size
problem: - defects in captured video if captured frame size is set to 1/4 and 1/8
troubleshooting: - no solution
problem: - cannot cature and output sound through Vodoo3
troubleshooting: - no solution. The board is not registering itself as audio device
problem: - Options-Configure-TV tuner is not working. Capture from TV tuner device goes OK
troubleshooting: - Use TV tuner software for settings
